New platform brings SW productivity, automation and digital manufacturing capabilities to large, complex components
CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — SW North America, a leading supplier of horizontal multi- and single-spindle CNC machining centers, automation, and complete system solutions, today announced the new BA space5-12H, a large-format machining center developed to bring greater productivity and flexibility to the manufacturing of large, complex components. The new platform was unveiled during a press conference on the floor at IMTS 2026 in Chicago.
The BA space5-12H represents an expansion of SW’s machining portfolio into a new class of component size and application. Built around a large work envelope, powerful two-axis machining head, and automation-ready architecture, the platform is designed for manufacturers producing demanding components that require size, precision, and production efficiency. SW North America estimates that the new platform can deliver up to 30% greater productivity compared with conventional machining approaches for targeted applications.

The BA space5-12H combines a large work envelope with the power and flexibility needed for demanding applications, including the following specifications:
• 4,800 x 1,800 x 875 mm work area
• 5,000 x 1,800 mm pallet size supporting loads up to 4,000 kg per pallet
• Symmetrical two-axis fork head with direct-drive torque technology
• A/C-axis configuration with ±120 degrees on the A axis and 360 degrees on the C axis
• HSK-A63 milling spindle with speeds up to 30,000 rpm and 120 kW of power
• Monoblock machine bed and gantry design developed for large-component machining
The BA space5-12H was developed with automation as a core part of the manufacturing concept. Its single-load configuration can be incorporated into larger automated manufacturing lines, giving manufacturers greater flexibility to scale production and make efficient use of valuable production capacity.
Aerospace Among the Initial Applications for the BA space5
One of the initial markets for the BA space5-12H is aerospace manufacturing, where large components, complex geometries, and difficult-to-machine materials create a natural application for the platform. Initial aerospace applications include:

• Seat structures and interior fittings
